Happenings
WOMEN OF THE CHURCH
We will not be meeting in July. Our August meeting will be held at the home of Trudy Bangsberg. This will be potluck, so bring a dish to pass - and your swimming suit if you feel like having a dip in the lake. All church women and friends are invited.

SUMMER CONCERT
"2010-June-LandOfFree-W449"
Land of the Free, a patriotic musical, will be presented on Sunday, July 25th, at 9:00 a.m. Long Lake's music groups plus singers from the community will all take part in this special program. Everyone is invited as we honor God and our country, the Land of the Free. This will be the only worship service held on this particular Sunday.

ANOTHER SUMMER CONCERT
Blast from the Past 1V is returning by popular demand. Mark your calendars for the evening of Wednesday, July 28th, at 7:00. Music will include rock and roll of the '50's and popular Johnny Cash songs. The Teachers Four (Bill Hrudka on the drums, Chris Ritchie on the bass, Brent Harings on the keyboard and Doug Johnson on the guitar) are the performers. A freewill offering will be taken with all proceeds going to the Birchwood Food Pantry. Bring your friends and neighbors and stay after the performance for ice cream treats. Everyone is welcome.

JULY CALENDAR
Our calendar is shown in a different format this month. You will be able to print it directly from the web page if you so desire.

CHURCH BUILDING
Because of our changing society, insurance carriers and member discussion, the church building will be locked when not in use. However, during office hours, scheduled services and events taking place, the doors will be unlocked. Members wishing for the combination may get it from the church office. For access to the building in an emergency, call Bonnie at 354-3274, Pastor Mary at 354-3190, or any council member.

PENNY THE PIG
Located at the back of the nave, this little pig is ready to receive your coins and dollars. Monies collected will benefit the Lutheran Malaria Initiative and Malawi Pastors' Academy. Help us to help them provide their pastors with continuing education.

MEN'S BREAKFAST AND BIBLE STUDY
Remember - we are meeting at Greener's at 8:30. Note the change in location. All men are welcome. Come with your appetites and your Bibles.

SUMMER WORSHIP SCHEDULE
From now until Labor Day weekend two Sunday morning worship services are offered - outdoors at 8:30 and indoors at 10:15. In case of inclement weather (rain or unseasonably cold), the early service will move indoors. Bring your lawn chairs for the outdoor service - and bring your neighbors too.

CHURCH LIBRARY
Located in a cozy corner of our gathering area you will find quite a few shelves of books, a self-help check-out system and an opportunity to donate funds and/or books of your own that need new readers. Browse around a bit. There are novels, children's books, self-help books, Bible study helps, reference books, and much much more. Comfy chairs are there for those who wish to ponder a bit. Many thanks to Chris Bank for serving as our library coordinator.

WORSHIP ASSISTANTS ARE ESPECIALLY NEEDED!
Our Music and Worship chairman would like everyone to put their special talents to work. Copies of duties explaining the various tasks are available in the church narthex. With the summer schedule coming up we'll need twice as many volunteers. A sign-up sheet is ready for your name as usher, greeter, reader, communion assistant or offering counter. The music groups, too, welcome new performers - choir, tone chimes, praise team. If you can sing, play a musical instrument, take part in an ensemble, you are wanted. Our year is filled with special worship services, celebrations all. Call Kathy Hanson (715-865-3777), Gloria Prock (715-354-3231), Fred Blake (715-469-3228) or Carolyn Cleveland (715-635-6885) if you can help.

QUILTING
Our quilters worked hard in May, finishing several projects, so that they can take the the summer months off. We still appreciate receiving materials for tops and bottoms and fillers, and will continue to collect clean used blankets, mattress pads, bedspreads, sheets and other fabric throughout the year, which may be placed on the table in the rear of Fellowship Hall. We are grateful for all of your donations.

HELPING HAITI
Financial gifts are urgently needed. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will add one dollar to every two dollars when Thrivent members donate to Lutheran World Relief for the ELCA Disaster Response. Call 1-800-236-3736 or click on the following website:

If you wish to give through Long Lake Lutheran Church, use the purple envelope and mark "Haiti" under "other."

NEEDED - BABY CLOTHING
The Pregnancy Help Center is in need of new or slightly used baby (to age two) clothing, quilts, blankets and disposable diapers. Donations may be placed in the laundry basket by the coat rack using the lower level steps.

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF COFFEE
Coffee for purchase is available between services. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the coffee sale benefit small farmers in third world countries or mission projects. It's excellent coffee. Try it! You'll like it!

PRAYER SHAWL KNITTING MINISTRY
Our Shawl Prayer ministry has received wide acceptance and the shawls are in great demand. The shawls are given to those who are hurting in body, mind or spirit, to remind them that they are wrapped in God's love. Requests for prayer shawls may be made by contacting Anne Drake at 715-635-8876 or by calling the church office. Knitters are always needed and appreciated.
